Messaging
Messaging is a private communication tool between the student and teacher, or two students. Unlike forums and chats, messaging is not course specific. Users can send messages to any other moodle users, regardless of what courses they are enrolled in.

Which advanced communication module are you interested in using?
A Wiki enables documents to be authored collectively. The Moodle Wiki module enables participants to work together on web pages to add, expand and change the content. Old versions are never deleted and can be restored.

Chat
You can add a Chat Module that enables all students in the course to enter and send messages to each other. You can schedule a time in the Chat settings, but the chat is always open. This scheduling just creates an entry in the course calendar to remind students to go to the Chat. You can choose to hide the chat.
