Tú and Usted (Ud.) Forms Notes and Practice
Please watch this video on how to create the tú and Usted (Ud.) forms of regular -AR verbs. Both of these forms are used when talking directly to another person. Both tú and Ud. mean "you". The difference is that one is used formally and one is used informally. Tú means "you, informal". We use this form when we are talking to people who we are informal with. This can include friends, family members and people younger than us. A good rule is that if you can call someone by his/her first name, you are being informal and can use the "tú" form. Usted (abbreviated Ud.) means "you, formal". This is the form used when talking to someone we are formal with. We use the Ud. form with teachers, principals, people older than us. Anyone with whom we use a title (Mr., Mrs., Ms., etc.) should be addressed using the Ud. form.
Now, please complete the following quiz (in reality, just practice with the tú form). All answers should be in the tú form. We will practice with Ud. later. You need to define the verb as well, so your answer should look like this:
definition, verb in the tú form
Example: tocar
Answer: to play (instrument), tocas
