Unit 8: Understanding Contemporary Literature Through the Practice of Creative Writing
During this unit students will understand the experimental nature of contemporary literature by exploring their own writing process. In this unit, students will analyze the trends being established by contemporary authors as they create websites featuring their own original narratives.

How do contemporary writers use the writing process to develop and strengthen writing while considering how it is appropriate to its audience and purpose? How does a writer establish and maintain a disciplined writing schedule?
How does understanding figurative language, word relationships, and other nuances of language improve a person’s knowledge of word meanings? How does language change depending on context, style, and purpose, and why does this matter? How do contemporary writers define their voice in a world full of opportunities for people to speak their minds?
What skills are needed to produce, publish, and update a website of original writings (effective narratives or other creative texts, either fiction or nonfiction) and writing philosophies and influences? How can a person use technology to demonstrate creative thinking and content knowledge?
