Singular Conjugation for -AR verbs

In lesson 6, you learned about infinitive verbs and that they end in either -AR, -ER or -IR. In this lesson, we will only focus on conjugating regular -AR verbs in the present tense. You will learn about conjugating -ER and -IR verbs in the present tense in lesson 10.

You might be wondering, “What does “conjugation” mean? Conjugation means to change the way an infinitive verb is spelled so that the verb describes who is doing the action. We do this in English, too. Take for example the infinitive verb “to dance.” See the table below to see how we conjugate “the infinitive verb to dance” in the present tense in English:

Step 1:Start with a regular -AR infinitive verb.

Step 2:Take off the -AR ending.

Modelo:>

Bailar → Bail
Cantar → Cant
Caminar → Camin

Step 3:Add the correct ending according to the subject pronoun or who is doing the action.
