Civilization, Society, and Lord of the Flies

1.       Golding says “The moral is that the shape of a society must depend on the ethical nature of the individual and not on any political system however apparently logical or respectable.”  Explain how the book proves or does not prove this.

2.       Golding relies on the following symbols to convey ideas about the nature of man.  Choose one and explain its importance to the story.  What do we ultimately learn about the boys because of this symbol?
