Each week, book clubs will discuss their reading via their own, personal blog. Students have several responsibilities each week: read, post, and comment.
- Read: First, read this week's section of the book (i.e. week 1, read section 1, etc.). DO NOT read ahead. It is important for your group to stay together. If you want to do more reading, please read another book instead. Blog discussions are more meaningful and fun when everyone moves through the book at the same pace.
- Post: After reading your chapters for the week, it’s time to blog! You will have different “job” each week. The jobs are: Character Analyzer, Question Captain, Image Illustrator, Connection Maker, and Excerpt Expert. Your weekly blog post will have two parts:
1) A summary of the chapters you read
2) Your job for the week.
You are the only one in your group with your job, so it has to be done on time in order for your group to have a good discussion. Posts are due by Thursday each week, but feel free to write your blog posts as soon as you finish reading your section of the week.
Click here for job descriptions and examples. - Comment: Finally, leave a comment on your each group member's post. Leave a specific, thoughtful, respectful comment on their post.
- Comments should include a specific reference to the "job" portion of the group member's post. Talk about their IDEAS, not their spelling or grammar.
- Be thoughtful - use high-level thinking. Saying, "I agree," is not thoughtful enough. Be detailed in your response.
- Be respectful and honest. It's OK to disagree with a person's post, but be kind and be sure to think about things they did well.
