What are cognates?

Cognates are words in Spanish that are spelled similar to or exactly the same as its English translation. When you are first learning the language, knowing cognates can help you find meaning in spoken or written words without looking them up in the dictionary.

1. el actor= the actor (masculine)

2. la actriz= the actress (feminine)

3. el doctor= the doctor (masculine)

4. la doctora= the doctor (feminine)

5. el paciente= the patient (masculine)

6. la paciente= the patient (feminine)

7. la parte= the part (feminine)

8. el teléfono= the telephone (masculine)
