Book Prediction
To be completed before, during, and after the reading in preparation for the Book Review and Criticism. Answer all questions thoroughly.
1. Before you begin reading… react to the title of the book. What might it mean? What does it make you think of? What expectations do you have?
2. After reading the first chapter… predict what you think is going to happen in the rest of the book, and explain why you think so. (You don’t have to be correct, just make an educated guess about what might follow.)
3. When you are halfway through the book… name the characters. Summarize the problems they are facing. Suggest possible solutions. Why do you find these solutions logical?
4. Just before you read the last chapter… discuss whether or not the problems have been settled. How have they been settled? What might the final chapter add to the book? Does it seem that something is still missing? Explain.
5. After you’ve finished the book… make two columns on your paper with the headings LIKED and DISLIKED. List as many things as you can about your book under each heading. Then choose one thing you liked and one thing you disliked and explain in greater detail.
6. Briefly summarize the ending of the book. Were you correct in your predictions? If so, how?
7. Reflecting on the literary work: What personal connections could you make to this work? How did it make you feel? Did it remind you of any other works? To whom might you recommend this work? How would you rate this work?
