Your answers will be discussed in class, in relation to the Pretest. Please be thorough. Complete and submit before class discussion.
Section 1
1. List as many problems/concerns as you can that affect the world that are discussed in Dune.
2. How are the problems presented? Symbolically, Metaphorically, Thematically, etc. How well did the author do presenting these problems? Does Dune make them easier to understand them in the real world?
3. Does Dune explain causes for each the problems? Name them.
4. Are the problems presented in Dune a global concern?
5. Do the issues addressed in Dune impact you personally? Explain.
6. Does Dune offer any potential solutions to these global concerns? Are the solutions realistic?
7. What would it take for Frank Herbert’s solutions to be implemented?
8. On a scale of 1-10 how hopeful are you that the problems presented in Dune will be solved within your lifetime? Why?
