These safety tips apply to social networking sites in general (facebook, myspace, twitter, etc.). Our class blogs have safety measures in place that will help protect us. In order to be a responsible digital citizen, always keep these ideas in mind:
  • Keep personal information private. Do not share your address, phone number, or birth date.
  • Nothing is really private. No matter what you think, privacy settings aren’t infallible. It’s up to you to protect yourself by thinking twice before you post something that could damage your reputation or that someone else could use to embarrass or hurt you.
  • Protect your friends' privacy. Passing along a rumor or identifying someone in a picture (called "tagging") affects their privacy.
  • Follow the Golden Rule. What goes around comes around. If you spread a rumor or talk negatively about a teacher, you can't assume that what you post will stay private. Whatever you say can come back to haunt you in more ways than you can imagine.
  • Think long term. Everything leaves a digital footprint. Whatever gets created may never go away. Post wisely.
