The goal:
To write a 2 page research paper in which you take a position on a topic and explain why your position works. Imagine that you are writing for an audience that you want to impress with your knowledge, so be sure to take a formal tone. In addition, you must include research from at least two sources and use APA formatting correctly to give credit to these sources.
Here is an outline for the topics we will cover in this course:
1) Figuring out a topic!
2) Finding good, credible sources.
3) Taking notes from your sources.
4) Using APA or MLA correctly.
5) Writing a rough draft, based on your research.
6) Writing the final draft.
It seems like a lot of work at first, but it is worth it! This is a CRUCIAL step towards preparing for college. You will not escape your college or high school career without having to write AT LEAST one lengthy research paper! :-)
So how should you use this website?
1) Take a look at the assignments briefly. You will need to complete ALL of them to get a good grade in this class.
2) Look at the resources listed below the assignments. EACH ASSIGNMENT HAS A CORRESPONDING RESOURCE, OR EVEN TWO! Be sure to review these resources before completing each assignment in order to ensure that you know how to do the assignment and will receive the highest points possible.
3) Use the... to communicate with your peers. There will be required communication during the process of reviewing and editing your rough drafts, but in the meantime there are also forums available for you to get help with the assignments.
