REQUIRED: Complex Sentence Practice

Like a compound sentence, a complex sentence contains more than one clause. However, unlike the compound sentence, the complex sentence has at least one subordinate clause. A complex sentence has one independent clause at least one subordinate clause. Remember that a subordinate clause may be an adjective clause, an adverb clause, or a noun clause.

Adjective clauses usually begin with a relative pronoun: who, whom, whose, which, or that.

Adverb clauses usually begin with a subordinating conjunction such as after, although, because, if, until, when, whoever.

Noun clauses usually begin with that, what, whatever, who, whoever, whom, or whomever.
