Assignment 7: First Draft of Children's Story

Children's Story: First Draft

Once you've listened to the responses to your interview questions, begin planning your children's story. Here are some things to keep in mind as you write:

  • The final product will be presented on VoiceThread and should be 10-12 slides long, with each slide having 3-4 sentences on it. The font size should be at least 18-20 point. Type your first draft on a Word document, but leave spaces to show where the page breaks will be.
  • Try to incorporate several of your elementary student's interests into the story. (See the sample interview and story as an example of this.)
  • Use at least 4 different types of figurative language and/or sound techniques in your story.
  • simile
  • metaphor
  • personification
  • hyperbole
  • alliteration
  • assonance
  • onomatopoeia
  • Keep the vocabulary and sentence structure simple and lively.
  • Since you will not know everything about your elementary student, try to avoid the following:
  • "sad" topics (disease, war, natural disasters, etc.)
  • holidays
  • questionable words (absolutely no obscenities!)
  • bad behavior (such as a child disobeying parents or elders)
  • also be careful about naming any "bad guys" in your story. You might unintentionally choose a name of someone that the child knows.

Once you have completed your rough draft, upload the Word document to this assignment form.
