Assignment 8: Adding illustrations
Adding Illustrations
Once you've received feedback on your rough draft, begin this next step.
- First, read through the feedback from me on your rough draft. Make any changes and correct any errors or misspellings.
- Once you've done the revisions, put your story into PowerPoint. (Remember, use at least 18-20 point font and put 3-4 sentences on each slide for a total of 10-12 slides.)
- Avoid using bright background colors or unusual fonts on the slides. White background and black script is probably the best so that the story can be read easily.
Now add some pictures to your book! You need to add a picture to each page of your story. Here are some options:
- If you enjoy drawing and have access to a scanner, you can draw or sketch your own illustrations to add to your story.
- Photographs are another good option. This is what was used in the sample story. If you have a digital camera, the photos can be directly uploaded to your computer. Printed photos can be scanned first and then uploaded. (If you are interested, you can check out www.picnik.com. This is a free website where you can edit your photos and add special effects. Have fun!)
- You can also use a program (such as Paint) to draw pictures directly on your computer.
- Finding images online to use is also an option, but be careful! Be sure to use images that are in the public domain. That means that it is okay for anyone to use. (Many images on Wikipedia are in the public domain and can be used.) If you do use images that you find online, add a citations page at the end of your book to give credit to your sources.
- ***Avoid using clip art that you find either on PowerPoint or online. You want this story to look professional and personalized. Go beyond basic shapes and common images.
