READ: Email Term Definitions
Here are the terms that are on the INTERACT snakes and ladders game as well as the email terms worksheet. Study them and then play the game and do the worksheet!
- Attachment - Any file that is sent with an e-mail message.
- Spam - Unwanted or “junk” e-mail.
- Web-based email service - An e-mail service that allows a user to send electronic messages to any other user that has an account with another e-mail service on the Internet.
- Username - The first part of an e-mail address is the username followed by the @ symbol and then the e-mail provider.
- Netiquette - Internet (including e-mail) behavior which is considered polite, friendly and non-offensive.
- Privacy - There are no laws protecting a person’s ________________ when it comes to e-mail messages like there are with regular mail.
- BCC (Blind Carbon Copy) - Used to send a message to a large number of recipients besides the original recipient in the “To:” field without them being able to see each other's addresses.
- Send - The e-mail command that actually transmits the message electronically.
- New - The e-mail command that opens the box where you can create an e-mail message.
- Network email service - An e-mail service that allows user to send electronic messages only to other users on the same network.
- Emoticon (smiley) - A short sequence of keyboard letters and symbols used to convey emotion, gestures, or expressions which could not otherwise be derived from mere text (such as :-) ).
- Heading/header - An e-mail message usually contains two parts – the header which includes information such as To: CC: BC: Attachments:, etc., and the body of the message.
- E-mail - Electronic message sent from one device (such as a computer) to another.
- CC (Carbon Copy) - Used to send an identical e-mail message to an additional recipient besides the original recipient in the "To:" field.
- Reply - An e-mail command that allows you to send an answer back to someone who has sent you an e-mail message.
- Address book - A feature of most e-mail programs that allows you to keep track of frequently used e-mail addresses.
- Forward - An e-mail command that allows you to send a message you received to another person.
- Unique - Every e-mail address must be unique - no two e-mail address can be the same.
