First, check out this article by Tim O'Reilly:
What is Web 2.0?
Utilizing Web 2.0 tools builds community and helps build relationships. Students engaged in learning and timely, relevant content are much more likely to remember and apply that information in their own lives. Students who may not be the type to speak up in class now have an outlet to express their ideas and creativity.
Remember, many Web 2.0 resources are public spaces that are open to everyone. Students will need to be taught how to navigate the digital world. We cannot assume that since they have grown up with technology that they know everything about it. Students will need lessons in:
- Netiquette-guidelines; rules; behavior;
- Safety-what can people do when they feel like their space has been violated;
- Copyright-just because they can find it on the web does not mean that it is free;
- Citizenship-how can the web be utilized to make our students responsible citizens? What resources are available?
The List! How many do you recognize?
