Growth Mindset

Of all the ways in which we can build intellective capacity, Growth Mindset can be one of the most powerful. While you probably have heard quite a bit about growth mindset, there is always more to be learned and clarified. Watch this nine-minute video from Carol Dweck, the lead researcher on Growth Mindset, talk about some of the subtleties and power of growth mindset. 

As you watch this clip, consider the phrase that comes up in the video, "Difficulty means not yet."

Now that you've seen the video, consider these questions. This is not a submitted assignment.

1. How do you think you do in your classroom regarding growth mindset?

2. Do you think you have hidden pockets of beliefs about intelligence, memory, and learning that impair your teaching? What might you do to identify them?

3. Much of teaching with Growth Mindset involves modifying the language we use with students. Are there ways you think you're particularly good at using the language of growth mindset?
