Take Five! Hands on Digital Photo Activity

Take Five! Hands on Digital Photo Activity

Students check out a digital camera and must take five appropriate photos with a digital camera. Remember, appropriate means you can show these photos to your parents, grandparents, teachers, principal, etc.

Close Up Shot:  The first photo is a close up shot of any object. For example, students may take a photo of a flower, or a coin, etc. The objective is to take a clear, viewable photo for your “Take Five Portfolio”.

Flash:  Turn off the lights, turn the flash button on, and keep your hands to yourself. Now, take a photo that will require the use of a flash. The objective is to take a clear, viewable photo with the use of a flash.

In Motion Shot:  Sometimes a photo journalist must capture images of moving objects. Get a partner and take a photo of them skipping, jogging in place, or jumping (quietly). The objective is to master the art of capturing photos of moving objects/people. NO- you can not go to the street to take photos of passing cars!

Tripod Shot: One of the keys to talking quality, publishable photos is to use a tripod. Take an appropriate photo with the camera mounted on the tripod. Now, compare that photo to the other three photos taken and compare/contrast the photos.

Student Choice Shot: Utilizing the stills you have acquired, take a photo using any of the methods above, or a combination of them, to create an original, student choice photo.

Upload your “Take Five” photos slideshow into your “Take Five Portfolio”.  Each of the five photos should have a caption and summery / explanation of what you have learned.
