Moodle Messaging
Moodle has a feature where you can send someone messages without ever having to leave moodle for another instant messaging application. This feature is called "Moodle Messaging."
Whenever you click on someone's name in moodle, whether it be on a forum post, a contact list, participant list, etc., you will have an option to send them a message. The person does NOT have to be online and logged into moodle that very second for you to be able to send them a message.
If the person is online, a messaging window will come up and you will be able to have a conversation with that person via moodle messaging.
If the person is NOT online, your message will forward to their ohsu email. This is important because if the person has correctly set up their gmail integration within moodle, the message will appear as an unread message in their inbox once they do login to moodle.
There is an "online users" section at the bottom left hand side of every class. You will be able to see online users who are also enrolled in that same class. You can click on their name to send them a message.
To send someone a message who is not enrolled in the same class as you, you can always click "Messages" in the top right, click on one of your contacts, and send that person a message.
To add a person to your contacts, you can click on the "Messages" link in the top left of any moodle page, and then click on the "Search" tab. You can search for a person by their name to add them to your contact list. That way, when you click on "Messages" again later, that person will show up in your contact list as online or offline.
