Goal Setting Part 1
The importance of goal setting for sports and life is well understood. Many people / athletes say they have goals, but few of those have written goals. They often have loose dreams or wishes of what they want to accomplish. One of the many benefits of goal setting is to focus on a strategy for improvement in a way that is specific, action oriented, and measurable.
For the goals setting unit, you will be completing 4 parts. First you will be reading about the process of goals setting and establishing your initial goals. In Part 2, you will revise those goals and get them in a final form, and in Part 3 you will develop a spreadsheet to track your progress. Finally, at the end of the term, you will evaluate your progress in achieving your goal.
PART 1:
1. Read Effective Goal Setting for Sports Performance for an overview in developing your goals. Play close attention to the differentiation between long term and short term goals and the idea of process goals. I would like you to submit 4 process goals that you will work on during the remainder of this course. You should have one in each area (technique, tactics, physical, and psychological). Each goals should be SMART =specific (for each area), measurable(needs to involved numbers), action oriented (most important -- what are you going to do), realistic (needs to be a stretch), time limited (by the end of the course)
