General
Ion Health and Fitness:What is Optimal Wellness and how do we get there and stay there? In this Health course, we will research and study the knowledge and skills necessary to create and implement a nutrition plan, exercise program and philosopy of life that will help us keep our ion our own personal health and fitness so we can work toward optional wellness through out our lifetime. Students will explore a broad range of health topics:
- physical activity, nutrition and mental health
- safety and injury prevention
- designing a personal nutrition and exercise program
- nutrition and your personal fitness
- your body composition
- maintaining a healthy body weight
- developing cardiovascular endurance
- basics of resistance training
- developing muscular strength
- basics of flexibility
- personal finess throughout a lifetime
There are three main objectives associated with this course that successful students will achieve. They include:
* Students will understand the importance of exercise in reaching optimal health goals, and develop a personal fitness plan* Students will understand the importance of a balanced diet as represented in the USDA Food Guide Pyramid, and develop a personalized eating plan aligned with their personal fitness plan* Students will synthesize research and personal knowledge of self to create a portfolio of artifacts which reflects a transformational approach to their physical and mental health
