A FTP client: FileZilla

For both Mac, Windows, or Linux, install FileZilla At http://filezilla-project.org/download.php

(If you already have a favorite FTP client, you can of course use it)

A Programming editor:

Windows: Install TextPad from http://www.textpad.com/download/

Mac: Install TextWrangler from http://www.barebones.com/products/TextWrangler/

Linux: you can use any programming editor you like. The opensource Bluefish editor looks like it is very popular, you can get it at http://bluefish.openoffice.nl/

(If you already have a favorite programming editor, you can of course use it)
