Although this course is not designed to teach you about the internet or how to design web pages. A successful PHP programmer must know other technologies to be effective on the job.
The primary ones being HTML modern web page design with CSS. and to understand the protocols of TCP/IP that are used between the client and server with PHP. This includes GET/POST.
Also important is to understand the basics of XML, DTD, AJAX, and javascript. We will not be covering these technologies in this class, but you should plan on learning them.
In this topic we will cover some basic HTML and CSS and a discussion of publishing web pages.
Also important coverage about what a roles client and server software play.
The Labs for this chapter will include a sample web page with css that you just need to type accurately, and a web page with CSS that you will design. Both of these need to uploaded to the cbis3 server and work from the internet. We will also have you type in your first php programs and upload them and get them to work on the web server as well.
This first Topic will not require the text book, this will allow some of you time to buy the book.
