In Subunit 1, you explored citizenship and issues relating to citizenship and immigration. In Subunit 2, you are going to explore citizenship on a very applied level through the elections process. Elections are the cornerstone to a liberal democratic republic. Free and fair elections are necessary for free people to govern ourselves. Elections are the most fundamental exercise of involvement in our experiment in republican government. Yet, it seems the simple act of voter involvement is overlooked for its value at times. Also, many in our republic realize that the simple act of voting is not enough. Being an informed voter, and being involved in the candidate selection process, is crucial to the survival of our form of government. In Subunit 2 you will explore these and other issues on a deeper level.
